About this event
The role of Two-Spirit people in Indigenous communities have long been part of Indigenous culture. Today, Two Spirit pride is being reclaimed, and it is becoming increasingly recognized that homophobia and transphobia are in direct contradiction with most traditional Indigenous values. Reclaiming the traditional roles and value placed on Two-Spirit people's gifts, is part of an important process taking place within Indigenous communities. As part of this reclamation, there has been a a push to ensure a visible and welcoming presence of Two-Spirit individuals in Indigenous communities and outside.
Tiberius is a Two-Spirit non-binary Cree and Métis person from Peepeekisis Cree Nation and the Qu’Appelle Valley Métis. They are a life-long activist, comic book aficionado, fashionista, writer, and vocal performer. They have a degree in Anthropology from the UofR and First Nations University of Canada. They recently returned from a five-year stint in Japan where they studied and performed Min’yo and Shamisen, sang in two cover bands, and taught hundreds of people their ABCs and how to avoid hugs from pushy people. When they aren’t working, reading, or writing, they are playing Nintendo, studying astrophysics, or getting angry about how much clothes cost and then making their own.
