Climate change is an immense global justice issue as it causes disproportionately greater harm to the world’s vulnerable populations who often bear least responsibility for its causes. These include small island and developing states; subsistence farmers; youth; poor and marginalized communities; informal workers; Indigenous peoples; and communities in regions already prone to drought and extreme weather conditions. Yet how are such inequalities addressed by the Paris Agreement, and are the mechanisms of this agreement powerful enough to ensure justice? This webinar unpacks the Paris Agreement and ongoing Paris Rulebook negotiations through a climate justice lens, and provides a discussion of key considerations and issues to watch at the upcoming COP26.
