This is a virtual drawing and writing workshop for first generation immigrants. All you need is paper and a drawing or writing utensil!
About this Event
Those of us who have experienced a life-altering move understand the tug and pull of our identities seeking to reconcile. We know the feeling of mother tongues and foreign languages clashing in our mouths. We sense the tensing of our joints and bones as they react to climates our bodies were not built for. We feel the mass movement within us, ever expanding.
This workshop, dedicated to people who have lived experiences across different countries, offers a range of artistic prompts to reflect on self and belonging in a safe, communal space. In the form of improv, sketches, map-making, poetry, lists, and writing, we will explore the traits (physical or otherwise) that our bones and muscles remember from generations past as well as the redefinition of home.
In this setting, you will have opportunities to develop your voice and share your work in an intimate group. All first generation immigrants are welcome, particularly BIPOC and beginner writers. Live captioning will be provided in English. Bring some paper, a pen/pencil, and get ready for a packed two hours of fun!
