This event is being coordinated by a team including one of our alumni - Cindy Caturao!

On March 19th, 2021, (6 p.m. MST) we encourage you to join us to further Truth and Reconciliation in our country; the NYRI will be hosting a roundtable discussion over Zoom to reflect upon the film and encourage meaningful conversations. We will have guest speakers who are knowledgeable on these topics to further educate us about issues that continue to affect Indigenous peoples' lives in our communities.

nîpawistamâsowin: We Will Stand Up weaves a profound narrative encompassing the filmmaker's adoption, the stark history of colonialism on the Prairies, and a vision of a future where Indigenous children can live safely on their homelands.

The film follows the story of a young Cree man named Colten Boushie, who died from a gunshot to the back of his head after entering Gerald Stanley's rural property with his friends. The jury's subsequent acquittal of Stanley captured international attention, raising questions about racism embedded within Canada's legal system and propelling Colten's family to national and international stages in their pursuit of justice.
