Reflecting on Racism & Discrimination: An Overview of Canadian Slavery
Mar 25, 2021 20:00
(GMT -4:00) Atlantic Time
Part of an ongoing series, this session will explore the history of Canadian slavery.
About this Event
Fugitive slave advertisements are a source of details about the lives of the enslaved that might otherwise be lost to history, telling a story of resistance beyond the Plantation or Underground Railroad. This session will examine these notices, along with other archival documents, to explore various aspects of the enslaved experience in Canada.
Presented by: Dr. Charmaine A. Nelson, Professor of Art History and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Transatlantic Black Diasporic Art and Community Engagement, Department of Art History and Contemporary Culture, NSCAD University.
This program will be hosted on Zoom.
