Context: In the context of repositioning our organization in response to the impacts of the pandemic, Chantiers jeunesse wishes to increase the teams IT expertise in connection with current youth mobilization issues.

Chantiers jeunesse believes that a diverse team is stronger. Indigenous people, members of visible minorities, individuals from ethnic minorities and people with disabilities are more than welcome to apply.

Under the immediate supervision of the Intercultural Volunteer Camps Coordinator, the Outreach and Development Officer will be in charge of recruiting and following up with volunteers, facilitating training sessions, maintain good relations with current and anticipated partners while representing the organization. Their tasks will include:

Volunteer Management

  • Recruit volunteers (program participants), especially at kiosks or virtual recruitment activities;
  • Mobilize volunteers: follow up from their application to their participation in a volunteer project (answer their questions, make sure they stay motivated, follow up on administrative and logistical matters).

Leadership

  • Lead training weekends for future volunteers;
  • Lead workshops on the topics of individual / community engagement and active citizenship;
  • Lead an intercultural volunteer project in Canada once a year (two to three weeks long).

Project Management

  • Manage communications with host and recruitment partners;
  • Manage work travel and visibility budgets.

Visibility

  • Coordinate events and presentations to increase visibility and representation in the assigned region;
  • Ensure the organization is represented at promotional events;
  • Post on social media (occasionally).

Skills

  • Practical, responsible and well organized (intrapreneurial management within the organization);
  • Self-sufficient and proactive;
  • Great at communicating effectively;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Capable of working alone or in a team;

Qualifications

  • Have a degree in animation, community development, education, social sciences or a related field, or have relevant life experience;
    • Having real-life experience is an important asset. Chantiers jeunesse strongly values life expertise and will take into consideration the candidate’s lived experience instead of their formal education.
  • Be fluent in written and spoken French and English;

Other Conditions

  • Have first hand cross-cultural experience, such as participating in or leading a diverse group in a camp or workshop setting (an asset);
  • Be skilled in managing volunteer resources;
  • Be familiar with community action and social development;
  • Have knowledge and/or interest in adapting content to be virtual;
  • Have experience with a diverse clientele such as Indigenous people, teenagers (15 to 17 years old), newcomers, young families, youth living below the poverty line or with a disability, etc.
  • Hold a Class 4B licence or be able to obtain it at their own expense no later than 3 months after being hired;
  • Be able to travel in the Greater Montreal area and elsewhere in Canada for a few days at a time on several occasions throughout the year;
  • Be available evenings and weekends occasionally;
