The Canadian Red Cross presents the 2020 Dalhousie International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Conference, organized in partnership with the John E. Read International Law Society (JERILS) at the Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University (Halifax).
This conference will bring together experts from the field of IHL, environmental law, and environmental peacebuilding to discuss the protection of the environment before and during armed conflict, impacts of damages to the environment on civilian populations, as well as environmental post-conflict recovery.
Join us as we examine the relevance of IHL in today’s modern armed conflicts and the challenges to its implementation when faced with 21st century concerns such as the interplay between the impacts of armed conflict and environmental degradation.
Keynote speaker:
Helen Obregón Gieseken, Legal Adviser, International Committee of the Red Cross
Panelists:
Doug Weir, Research and Policy Director at the Conflict and Environment Observatory
